The Equine Protection Package helps to protect America’s Shadow Herd by supporting three key pieces of legislation:
SAFE ACT (Save America's Forgotten Equines), HR 1661
The Save America's Forgotten Equines (SAFE) Act (H.R. 1661 / S. 775) is bipartisan federal legislation that permanently bans the slaughter of horses for human consumption in the United States and prohibits the export of live horses to Canada and Mexico for the same purpose.
BUILD America 250 Act incl. the Van Drew- Titus Amendment, HR 8870
The Van Drew-Titus Amendment is a bipartisan measure approved by the U.S. House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee that permanently prohibits the transport of horses to slaughter for human consumption and bans the use of dangerous double-decker trailers for equine transport. It was incorporated into the five-year surface transportation reauthorization bill (H.R. 8870), also known as the BUILD America 250 Act.
Wild Horse & Burro Act, HR 4356
In 2025, the primary legislative focus was the introduction of the Wild Horse and Burro Protection Act of 2025 (H.R. 4356). This bipartisan bill aims to amend the original 1971 Wild Free-Roaming Horses and Burros Act by prohibiting the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) from using helicopters or fixed-wing aircraft for animal roundups.

They deserve to live with dignity in the United States, the country they helped found and not to be exploited by profiteers and foreign meat companies.
The demand for this meat is diminishing worldwide and the time to end this practice is NOW.
